Standing majestically at the northern end of the Palace of Westminster, Big Ben is one of the world's most recognizable clock towers. Completed in 1859, this masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture rises 96 metres above the heart of London, dominating the city's skyline. While the tower itself is officially called Elizabeth Tower, the name "Big Ben" – originally referring to the Great Bell within – has become synonymous with the entire iconic structure.

The tower is celebrated for its architectural brilliance and the four enormous clock faces mounted on each side. Each clock face measures over 7 metres in diameter, with precision mechanisms that have been faithfully telling London the time for more than 150 years. When illuminated against the night sky, the tower presents a breathtaking spectacle that can be admired from across the Thames River or from Westminster Bridge.

As a symbol of British democracy and stability, Big Ben draws millions of visitors each year from around the globe. The photographs taken from Parliament Square are among tourism's most iconic images. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Palace of Westminster complex, this monument stands as an indispensable symbol of British architectural heritage and cultural legacy.
